Just breathe blog

The last 6 months have been a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone. Taking each day as it comes dealing with uncertainty and change.

As COVID-19 continues to impact lives and jobs, the future can seem unclear. For many, it is a scary time.

The dreaded invite to a Teams meeting about a “restructure”. Being told alone at your dining room table that your job is a threat and you are facing a “redundancy process”. Days and in some cases weeks of uncertainty whilst you await your fate.

Sleepless nights. Putting on a brave face. Trying to keep it all together so you don’t worry your partner or children. No appetite. No joy. Inside your world is collapsing and even taking a breath feels difficult as you come to terms with the fact that your last wage in the bank is potentially not too far away.

So, what can you do…

Firstly, Just Breath. We know it sounds daft, but your body automatically calms down if you take a big breath – and it’s even better if you can go outside to the beach or park and breath.

Secondly, take time. Take time to look your current situation, visit our “know your numbers” article and work out what your numbers are.

If you have enough savings to get you through the next 6 months then put the money worries aside and concentrate on finding a new job – then review your finances in 3 months if you haven’t secured a new role.

If you’ve done your numbers and you have little or no financial reserves then ask for help, there is a way forward.
